(I have been scouted in the U.S.A-North Carolina)
My name is Potso Aphane, 23 years old and studying final year at the university of johannesburg as well as playing women's football and currently the first team vice captain.
A few months ago I received an email from an international coach to join their 2019 recruit list as I had been scouted by one of the coaches. The school''s name is St.Andrews in North Carolina, one of my teammates has been successful in travelling there and joining the team two years back.
The school has offered me a tuition fee of $19,000 and my total tuition however is $37,945, added to this I have to cover my own flight ticket to the U.S,and pay a deposit of $1000 (R12,950). I have registered with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to get an elligibility center number which costs $135 and I still have to pay that.
I am pleading with you and any other party that can be involved to please help me raise funds for me to make this dream of playing international football a reality, not only is it a dream to play international football, but studying abroad in the Sports communication faculty is a dream. I want to bring more players on board into international football and academics to come back and better south African football and academics.
I am an aspiring, hard working and determined journalist student aiming to challenge gender roles in South Africa, more specifically in the sports industry and bring changes to the society by eradicating stereotypes about women in sports (football), about children being raised by single parents, about growing up in the rural area and paving ways for others to follow in my foot steps and dream beyond South Africa and their circumstances and actually making it.
