Like many students, I avoid limiting my learning process to the class room, thus I wholeheartedly believe that students should seek opportunities that will foster their academic, social, and professional development by way of internships and externships. After seeking countless opportunities that will help cultivate my professional and social etiquette, I have been selected to attend Georgetown's Institute on Business and Government Affairs (IBGA). IBGA is a program offered during the summer that is designed for students to study public policy regarding government and business, all the while working as an intern at a worksite related to their interests. As a Political Science and Economics double major with a concentration in International Relations, I chose to apply to the IBGA program because in my heart, I knew that it could offer me the global perspective on government and business necessary to fortify my awareness of the different political and corporate actors on the world stage.
When I learned that I was awarded a partial scholarship, I was extremely grateful, yet worried because I was still short more than half of the total cost of attendance. Resilient in my efforts to make pariticipating in the IBGA program possible, I reached out to coordinators of the program to express my situation. To my surprise, they expressed to me that there were some extra funds available, and increased my scholarship by exactly 1,000 dollars. With that increase, I knew in my heart that I was meant to be apart of the IBGA program, for there was no way such an increase occured without reason.
With the utmost sincerity and desire to take advantage of such an awesome opportunity, I am asking for your sponsorship to ensure that I do not miss out on a rewarding experience that will increase my global awareness, expand my professional network, and enhance my knowledge in the career field that of which I am genuinely interested in: International Business. I can assure you that if you so choose to sponsor me to attend such a prestigious program, your assistance will be not given in vain. As a student at IBGA, I will gain insight and knowledge to share with other students of my home school- Morehouse College - who share the same interests. Furthermore, I will represent and promote the brand of the college, just as many students have in the past as interns at various sites in Washington D.C.
The selection committee has informed me that freshmen are rarely selected for the program, therefore I am not only fortunate to have been accepted, but honored. I want to show the program that freshman are very much capable of satisfying the demands of IBGA's rigorous course load and perhaps open the door for future freshman not only of Morehouse College, but across the nation as a whole.
If you could please consider assisting to sponsor me to attend the program, I will express my profound gratitude by putting my best foot forward on the campus of Georgetown University and in the metropolis of government and business - Washington, D.C. I thank you for time and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Jerrel Baker
