Inspired by Nature, Starting A Farm

Hi there GoGet Funders. I'm a Malaysian citizen working as a QC Inspector in one of a local company. I've been interested in planting and farming since I was little. I used to plant cassavas and chillies. Since grown up I haven't got the opportunity to plant anything worthwhile.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysia has entered Movement Control Order (MCO) state since 18 March 2020. Since then I got some time to re-ignite my passion and love to nature because my company is forced to stop operation for some time. Everyday in the morning I would attend to my little garden that I started since MCO.

Kangkung - as we called it.

Now, we are in Recovery MCO. Most companies are allowed to continue their operation. But due to the pandemic, most company are affected. So does the company I'm working for. Hence, I no longer have to work overtime and have a lot of time to pursue my passion.

With a lot of time in hand, I'm planning to start up my own farm. The plan is to start with a 1-acre of land. I'm planning to plant a few varieties of vegetable and fruit such as long beans, green beans, sweet corn, papaya, kangkung and edible sunflower. These types of plant is what I deem suitable for my start up project after intensive research. They are easy to grow and suitable with the climate which are hot and damp all year round.

The long bean that I planted for a test.

In my research, I found out that I will need at least around MYR40,000 to start and maintain my farm for the first six months (for 1 acre of land). This cost includes but not limited to the tools and appartus used, seedlings and utilities. The cost is higher at start up because I will be doing everything from scratch such as the bedding, building irrigation system, support for the plants etc.

Though I have some savings which I can use (around MYR 5000) , I'm still a long way to go before I can start my farm in full force. Thus I humbly request the aid of you, GoGet Funders to help me out here. By farming I could help the world maintain its food supplies and by helping me, you help me achieve that goal.

I sincerely offer my thanks in advance.

Seedling Pot. For now I planted sweet corn and edible sunflower.

P/S: I'm not sure why some the pictures isn't upright. I tried to correct it but to no avail.

Update on 17th July 2020

My seedlings are growing strong and healthy. Currently I have around 33 seedlings of foot-long beans, around 19 seedlings of sweet corn, 2 papaya trees (about 1.5 metres high), a few stalks of culantro, 1 stalk of josapine pineapple and some water spinach. Used fund around $100-$150 for the seeds, polybags, tools, mixed soil, etc.

In the near future I planned to plant some red chillies, green beans, pak choy, green mustard and garlic.

Additionally I will need to start building an irrigation system complete with timer so I won't miss watering the plants because the family is getting bigger by the day.

The worn-out garage will be replace with a new.one so that I will have a place to keep my tools & clean my harvest when the time comes.
