Windmill is a non-profit project carried out by us, 4 engineering students at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. We are going to develop and build a cheap wind turbine that can be used to generate electricity in rural parts of Tanzania, where the supply of electricity is limited. The small scaled wind turbine can make a big difference for schools and homes in the electricity-lacking areas in Tanzania. We want to spread knowledge ab

The goal of the project is to build and develop a cheap wind turbine that can be used to generate electricity. The aim with the project is to place the prototype in a rural part of Tanzania, where the supply of electricity is limited, and to spread knowledge about renewable energies.

Several homes in rural villages in Africa lack connection to the electric grid. Instead they use car batteries, which are charged by driving a car until the battery is fully charged to power electrical devices in their homes. Since all people don’t own a car, people charge batteries and sell them to others. This way of obtaining electricity results in unnecessary CO2 emissions which is a waste of natural resources and its an expensive energy source. Our wind turbine is independant, you dont have to connect it to the electric grid. It's going to be a cheaper energy source compared to the car betteries for the rural areas without any environmental impacts.  The students will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in the middle of June. They will build and place the wind turbine in a suitable rural area lacking electricity.
