Based on the 2018 UNICEF situation analysis of children in the Philippines, 31.4% of children are living below the basic needs poverty line nationally. One in three children under the age of 5 in the Philippines is stunted. Almost half of stunted children come from the poorest households, compared to only 15% from the wealthiest households. An estimated 2.85 million children aged 5-15 are out of school. While the efforts from government and non-government agencies to alleviate the welfare of every child in the Philippines continue, every bit of help is still needed.
As part of its commitment to support the Community, Ingram Micro Philippines’ H.O.P.E. Committee launches the 2019 GBS Bikeathon Charity Event, a 24-hour stationary cycling event that aims to raise fund to support Educational Research and Development Assistance (ERDA) Foundation. The organization aims to give children (from disadvantaged communities) access to basic and quality education; ERDA has been facilitating educational assistance (school supplies, bags and uniform), Catch-up Program (tutorials, workshops) and leadership and life skills trainings for the children for them to experience holistic education. ERDA also encourages parents to form savings groups and participate in livelihood trainings for them to sustain the needs of their families especially their children.
