Synopsis of Film: A man who has lost it all finds a renewed hope and purpose when he searches for a missing girl he intends on finding, no matter what!
About the project: A few years ago a friend approached me (Janice) with a script he wanted to turn into a movie. I told him I'd read it and give him some feedback when I was done. Not only did I have feedback for him, but the story touched me so much that I promised him that I'd make it myself. The story is about a young girl who is sold into human trafficking, the one thing that we all fear might happen to us or our children if we aren't too careful. It's also about a parent who has lost a child and knows what it feels like for the people involved in bringing a child up into this world and to have them taken away just like that. It's a parents worst nightmare come true! The main character, Dave has vowed to find the little girl he saw kidnapped with his own eyes before she's shipped off to another country. During this time he has to face ghosts from his past while coming to terms with the loss of his child and also hopefully reuniting with his ex-wife.
More about the team: The team consist of writer Gregory Leonard who wrote the script for a screenwriters class at film school. He always had a passion for anti-human trafficking, and after watching Sin City he was inspired to write a story about a young girl who is the target of a human trafficking ring and an ex-journalist dead set on finding her. With only that concept, a laptop and many hours awake, he got to the end of script and typed, The End! When he felt confident enough about his work, he showed it to Janice Magerman, our director. Janice Magerman has always been interested in directing films, and more importantly telling unique, authentic and local South African films that shows not only our countries harsh realities but also the kind, beautiful and good-natured side of many South Africans. She grew up watching many films with her mother who introduced her to film-making at a young age. From the age of six she already knew what she wanted to do with the rest of her life, and that was bringing incredible and relatable stories to the screens of South Africa and the world! Kurt van Vollenhoven had always dreamt of a film industry in Port Elizabeth, seeing most projects are produced and shot in Johannesburg and Cape Town. He felt that many of the residents of Port Elizabeth lost out on their dreams of becoming filmmakers, actors and storytellers and were forced to either let their dreams go or move to another city to pursue those dreams. He wants to carve a film industry out so that many peoples dreams can be realized, including his own.
What the funds will be used for: We believe it's very important to pay the people we work with (crew) so that in future they won't hesitate to work with us again - profits from the film will be reinvested into the local film industry. We are a team, and therefore we find everyone's help invaluable! We need equipment in order to shoot our film! We already have a production company involved that will provide all equipment, location and sets that we need to make this film look its best! Actors will be paid, all local unless we are fortunate enough to get international actors involved. We haven't started the casting yet, but we want to pay our actors well, because without the actors, we don't have a film. All monies will go towards the production of this film. We plan to make this the best film that comes out of South Africa! So please help us make that dream become a reality. We can't do it without you!
