Who We Are
We are Migo Ranch & Farms, a registered startup organic vegetable farming business established in Kenya in 2015.
We are a team of childhood friends who are passionate about the need for vegetable consumers to have access to safe, healthy, and tasty vegetables.
The team with their entrepreneurship trainer, Australian Lukas Weiser.
We have identified serious problems relating to the quality of vegetables available on the Kenyan market.
We want to help solve the problems for the benefit of vegetable consumers and the environment.
The Problems
Over 80% of vegetables sold on the local market and in particular in cities and towns contain an extremely high level of chemical residue. This is as a result of wrong or inappropriate use of synthetic fertilizer and chemical pesticides by both urban and rural-based vegetable farmers.
The vegetables also contain heavy metals. This is because most vegetables sold in cities and towns are produced along river banks. The rivers flowing through and near our towns are heavily polluted with both waste and chemical flow from industries.
The vegetables produced along river banks and towns have also been found to be contaminated with a broad class of disease-causing bacteria including fecal coliforms and E.coli. (http://www.nation.co.ke/lifestyle/dn2/Germs-in-a-bowl/957860-1612734-vl1er2/index.html.
Vegetable consumers in Kenyan cities and towns are already facing serious health problems. Indeed, cases of chronic diseases recorded in Kenyan hospitals are on the rise. Indeed, a research study published in the Journal JAMA Internal Medicine (https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/health/article/2001258970/chemicals-in-vegetables-fruits-linked-to-low-fertility-in-women) has found that vegetable consumers in Kenyan cities and towns face serious health risks. The study findings relate this sad situation to exposure to high level of pesticide residue. Both men and women of child-bearing age in Kenyan cities and towns are at constant risk of reproductive abnormalities.
We strongly believe that this is a serious problem that must be addressed at the earliest opportunity possible.
We are, therefore, setting out to turn things around. We literally want to disrupt the production, supply and sale of vegetables on the Kenyan market, especially in cities and towns.
Our Training and Expertise
We are a team of three childhood friends trained in organic farming. We also have the necessary experience having practiced organic farming individually at a small scale.
We are also trained in the production of organic fertilizer (bio-fertilizer) from vermiculture (http://homeguides.sfgate.com/advantages-vermicompost-43263.html) and are knowledgeable and experienced in formulating bio-pesticides from herbal plants.
We are proud of the entrepreneurship training we have received from SEED (https://www.seed.uno) and business capacity building training provided to us by Bridges for Enterprise (https://www.bridgesforenterprise.com), a society at the University of Cambridge.

We have secured a 3-acre farm using our individual savings. We are now sourcing for startup capital to launch our commercial organic farming activities.
We set out to be the preferred producer and marketer of fresh organic vegetables both in Kenya and the East African region.
We also have the long-term vision to be the preferred processor of certified organic vegetables in Kenya and the region within the next 5 years.

Piloting
We have conducted three (3) market studies over the last 9 months. We have identified and segmented our key customers.
We have successfully piloted our venture and attracted interest of bulk buyers including hotels, restaurants and hospitals.
We are now confident that there is a ready market for fresh and healthy organic vegetables on the local market.
We have now set out to crowdfund/source for investment amounting to US$10,000. We have adopted a unique crowdfunding/investment model.
Our Crowdfunding Model
We are welcoming both regular donations, which can be as small as $5. We are also giving you the opportunity to invest in us and in our business.
