Im a filmmaker and theatre artist based in Vienna. I hold a diploma in degree in Theatre and have specialized in Theatre of the Oppressed. As a woman being born and brought up in a country in Middle East where issues involving womens’ status are pretty different from anywhere in the West helped me discovering that my interests are particularly focused on institutional oppression and gender problematic in eastern countries.
Choosing a Diploma degree in Art is a result of my deep-seated curiosity to find out if art can be a bridge across the gap between peoples and cultures. Throughout my studies art has moved away from the mainstream, superficial purpose to involve social and political engagement and motives of self-expression. After graduating I have determined that theatre is the best form of expression shaped by social, political factors that I can use as an artistic force.
Since then I’ve been traveling around Middle East, working mostly with children and young women from villages. I intend to engage the subjective processes of analysing and documenting the transformation of cultures, regions and peoples in conflict.
I just finished my first feature length documentary about Yazidi women that won the Austrian documentary award at Ethnocineca Festival in Vienna this year. (“What the wind took away” shows the destiny of Yazidi women in relation to their by violence and oppression affected lives and achieves an intimate insight into their personal experiences during the IS war. The aim is to illuminate their stories concerning their gender and their origin and to give them a voice that is loud enough to be heard in the western world.)
I didnt have my own laptop the last couple of years since I was travelling and working in Middle East but Im back and have lots of material to edit and work on so I immediately need a laptop. I cant afford any right now since working voluntarily in the last years made me financially pretty unstable thats why I need your help!
