In Memory of Cavan Ocean Riley

On April 25th 2013 Cavan Ocean Riley was born in China via C Section. A week before he was born the Doctors in China found that something was wrong with his heart. They diagnosed him to have HLHS which is Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome which is a very rare and serious heart condition that would need immediate surgery. My brother and his wife went on to try and find a Doctor who could perform his surgery. After meeting many Doctors they found one and his surgery was done a few days after he was born. Having the success rate only at 50%, we as a family came together, prayed and stayed hopeful. His surgery seemed successful and they had even closed his heart a day earlier then planned, we were all very excited and so greatful that he was doing well. The Doctors told my brother that over the course of the next 5 days would be the most crucial, more prayers went up for Cavan, from all over the world. On May the 4th 2013 Cavan passed away from complications from HLHS. It was not expected and i cannot think of anything harder to go through as a parent. Having 2 chilren of my own i look up to my brother and his wife, their strength has been nothing short of amazing. My brother has lived in China for the past 8 years and over the course of those 8 years him and his wife have helped many orphanges and children in need. I would love to extend what they have already done and raise money to be able to reach even more children in China, in honor of Cavan.
