Hi all, I am John Brown a 25 years old hardworking professional. I have a good job and I continue to study in order to provide a better life for my family.
I come from a non traditional family, my mother, my sister, my aunt and my grandmother. Having said that, my child was not easy, we had all kind of struggles and challenges. My mother used to work as a janitor in the day and part time cooker at nights, my aunt continue to work as a janitor.
Money was limited for us, but we have always believe in hard work. I was always motivated to study. My mom, my aunt and my grandma did everything they could so I could complete my studies. When I finished high school we couldn't afford to pay a university and even having a scholarship was not an option for me since I needed to work and help to pay bills. After 2 years of working, I saved enough money to accept a scholarship and continue my journey.
I quit my fulltime job, I started to study, then I found a part time job while I was at university. And so I managed to complete my bachelor's degree.
The reason for this go funding campaign is that my grand mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease about 8 years ago. Her condition is getting worse and worse. My mother quit her full time job 7 years ago to take care of her. That is why I needed to work as soon as I finished high school.
Apart from that, my grand mother has Parkinson's disease as well. Medicines for both are not affordable and the government insurance is not enough to cover all. Also, the house in which they live is not in a good state for her condition.
My grandmother who is 76 years old, lost the ability to walk 2 years ago. She no longer talks, she can barely move and she needs assistance from my mother and aunt 27x7 all days of the year. Sometimes she suffers from sporadic convulsions as well.
Taking care of her in this environment is very challenging for my mother and my salary is not enough to cover all of their expenses. The wheelchair does not fit through the bathroom door and bath time is a nightmare, all is done in her room because of this.
My mother is suffering now back pains because my grand mother sleeps in a regular bed and a bed for her condition is very expensive so my mother have to constantly move my grand mother around, sit her up to feed her etc.
I am sure that there are people with greater problems in this world. But I can not bare to see them so sad and tired of life at this point. I have made my best to give them a better life but it has not been easy and we don't have support from anybody else.
I was the first one in my family to finish university and my sister is working and studying in university as she can. Her job is not good but it helps to pay some bills.
I just want some help to adequate the bathroom so the wheelchair can go though and also to buy a medical bed that will make the task of caring a bit more easier. At this point, we know that there is nothing else to do with this disease but we can try to give her a better life and decent conditions.
I truly appreciate any help you can provide.
