Improving child health through education and advocacy

In the African region, under 5 mortality rates continue well above those in "developed" countries. Current measures of under 5 mortality in sub-Saharan Africa estimate them at 15 times as high. Across the world, this equates to 5 children dying every minute, half of whom are in the African region. Additionally recent studies throughout the region report inadequate qualified paediatric personnel and clinical care but governments are doing little to address this.

In response, Baby Steps and Big Dreams has two major focuses:

1. Promoting paediatric education through the provision of scholarships

2. Fostering a spirit of advocacy and improvement in child health workers
