IMG SOCCER ACADEMY

It could be said that passion is the driving force of humanity. As a Liberian-American, I am blessed to have countless opportunities to pursue my dreams here in the United States. Many of my most vivid, positive memories of my childhood in Liberia were of me and my friends playing soccer. Organized teams were non-existent. Gunshots penetrated the humid air frequently due to the Civil War rampaging through our Country, and eventually our own village. At one point, my family and neighbors were shuttled into walled-off sections of the remote jungle. We were told we would be safe. Things would never be as they were before. I was used to seeing how many times I could get away with skipping school to play soccer. Now, to keep my mind fixated on something other than my growling stomach and the gunshots that never ceased, I was encouraged to play soccer as often as I wanted. I would play for hours on end.

Soccer was more than a sport to me. This game was my coping mechanism. With every kick, every meter I ran, I was able to leave a fragment of my painful experiences behind. I was eventually adopted into a loving family here in the United States. They have sacrificed everything for my brother and me, and have always taught me to pursue my dreams.

I believe that hard work is what ignites passion to thrive. For the past year, I have been working full time while also finishing my high school degree. I also believe that teamwork is vital to the success of an individual. I would not be the same person I am today without the support of my parents and many mentors. With your financial support, I would be one step closer to having the opportunity to reach my full potential as a soccer player. My goal is to attend a prestigious soccer academy offered through IMG in Bradenton, Florida, at the beginning of next year. Although I have saved up money myself, I still need your help to raise five thousand. Thank you in advance for contribution and support!
