During this difficult time the world is facing-l believe that it is of utmost importance that we all do our part to make a difference while self-isolating in our homes.
Mi selfless grandmother (who is 78 years old) has dedicated her life to rescuing dogs in need. she currently owns around 10 dogs who all have their own sad backstory but now face a bright future ahead. I am reaching out on behalf of Smiley - an 9 year old Siberian husky-German shepherd mix with severe Diabetes. Each morning and evening she gets injected with heavy doses on Insulin and walks around with a droopy head and extreme thirst. As a result , her eyes have gotten cloudy and she can no longer see.
Her story symbolises fate as my grandmother felt the need to take a different route morning during a bitter winter morning in late June. On the streets , lay a tiny white 'ball of fluff' as my grandmother describes her. It was clear that the dog was abandoned and after knocking on people's doors- my grandmother knew that if she left the dog behind, she would die.
Smiley is sill young enough to have eye surgery to remove the cataracts but a cost of $2000, my grandmother simply cannot afford it. The little money she have goes into rescuing and taking care of these animals. It is extremely sad to watch Smiley walk around lost and confused . She gets trapped in corners and bumps into things on a daily basis. My grandmother follows her around and tap their legs to indicate where she can and can't walk all day long. While her Diabetes can be maintained through constant care - eye surgery would give her a chance at being a somewhat normal and happy dog again.
It would mean the world to my grandmother to see Smiley flourish! l am so grateful to be part of a family who cares for animals the way they should be cared for. And l would be beyond grateful for any donation possible!
