I am Iloria Phoenix and I am currently a vocal performance and psychology major at Luther College. At Luther College I am very involved in womens leadership, choir, student senate and psychology research.
In addition to being a student at Luther College, looking at my future career goals, I aspire to be a professional Opera singer because I see Opera as one of the strongest forms of expression and communication through music. In an effort to improve and grow as a musician over this summer, I set a goal to participate in a summer music festival. I am happy to announce to those known and unknown that I was accepted to the Atlantic Music Festival (AMF) in Waterville, Maine. Among the other programs I was accepted to, I see the Atlantic Festival as the perfect program for me to participate in this summer and I gladly accepted the offer.
The Atlantic Music Festival (AMF) has a mission to cultivate originality, independence, and innovation in the American musical performance arena. AMF Institute offers programs for composers, conductors, instrumentalists, and singers. Those admitted to the AMF Institute receive lessons, coachings, master classes, and have opportunities to perform alongside world renowned artist-faculty members throughout the festival season. I will be participating in the 4 week Opera Workshop program, My role at this festival would be to cultivate musicianship and artistry through immersion and intense study from professionals in the music field from institutions such as the Juilliard, Manhattan school of music and Notre Dame University.
If I could express in words to you how much an opportunity to perform, learn and grow as a vocalist this summer means to me, and how excited I was when I received the acceptance email, I would because I am overwhelmingly thrilled. While I was accepted to the Atlantic Music Festival and received some Financial aid, which I am extremely grateful for, It was not substantial enough to allow me to afford the $4,500 tuition cost not including travel costs. I am afraid that even with the current money I have saved and am working towards to pay this summer’s tuition, it will not surmount to be enough. Currently, I have acquired about $1,400 in scholarships, financial aid and summer funding from my institution and the Atlantic Music Festival and with the help of you to raise around $1,000 I'll be able to afford the remaining tuition to go to the festival.
I would like to participate in the Atlantic Music Festival because I know that I still have much to learn. I think this program will strongly boost my performance skills as a musician and give me a chance to grow into the vocalist I strive to be. I also would like to obtain more performing experience and vocal growth. In following my dreams to be an opera singer I know the Atlantic Music Festival Summer Opera experience would be very valuable to my journey. I want more than anything to have a chance to collaborate with music faculty, other student musicians, and to be doing the things that I love most, singing and performing. I know with your help this is possible. I will be forever grateful for any and all contributions and remember you as helping me to go to my first ever music festival.
Thank you and please share with whom you see fit,
