Campaign Story
My name is Ilana Hermes, from Cape Town, South Africa. I am both deaf and blind, but due to the miracle of cochlear implants, I have regained some precious hearing, making it easier to have a full life, working as a reflexologist, sharing love and healing with my family, friends and clients. Unfortunately, the technology that helps me hear is expensive to maintain, and my current equipment is obsolete, which means that my hearing is under threat, as replacement parts for the old equipment I use are no longer available.
Currently, I need to replace my speech processors, which are the external components of my cochlear implants. My current ones were already 2nd hand when I got them in 2007, and are a ticking timebomb that can plunge me back into silence at any time. I need to raise R300000, which is about $21000 or £16500, to help me secure a hearing future.
