Campaign Story
[English below]
Puerto Rico decided that this year they will award all competitors regardless of gender, equal reward money as well as equal fees.
This is wonderful news, but because women still are making less in the field, we decided to sponsor our local female athletes to increase the number of competitors in hopes that more women in future competitions will follow suit.
Sexism and classism have had a long standing unspoken history in competitive surfing and it is time to take steps to change this once and for all. Real equal opportunity and leveled playing ground is what will bring sustainable change.
We are raising funds to sponsor 10 women. 100% of these funds will go directly to their entry fees which are $287.59 each plus 8% for the platform fee. This will also allow them to compete all year and only have to pay entry fees. It is past time for the industry and communities to start the ball rolling in the right direction for equity in competitive surfing. We hope this will jumpstart women to be able to compete and support themselves through the surfing industry.
If any businesses are interested in fully sponsoring a competitor in exchange for business promotion please contact Erica directly.
If you would like to nominate someone please contact Erica Mulcahy at 7872239146. Please keep in mind this should be for those who would not have the means and opportunity to enter otherwise.
