iGEM Thessaly 2020-2021 is the new interdisciplinary team of the University of Thessaly, Greece, which will participate in the international iGEM Competition, a competition dedicated to Synthetic biology.
Our team consists of thirteen undergraduate and postgraduate students from different scientific backgrounds including: Biological Sciences Architecture, Electrical Engineering and Economics. Our project focuses on IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). The aim of our project is to create a bacteria supplement that will help patients with IBD, through the creation of new techniques and improvement of existing ones to diagnose and cure this disease. Our approach will take advantage of the function of the intestinal microbiome, by utilizing with a functional biosensor in the form of a consumable capsule to identify IBD-induced metabolite imbalances. Data derived from this diagnostic test will offer the basis for every patient’s personalized therapy.
We would be grateful for your support on our project!
