My name is Jamia Robertson. I am about to go into my Junior Year at the Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, majoring in Biology. I have aspirations of going to medical school after my undergraduate studies to become an Obstetrician. The thought of being able to aid women in such a key component in life for them is a journey that I have always had a passion for. I was given the opportunity to shadow an amazing Obstetrician and Gynecologist in Durham, NC to observe my first live-births, gynecological procedures, and much more during January Term at my University. January Term is four-week period of time that gives students the opportunity to complete an internship in the field that they have an interest in. Throughout my internship, my passion was fueled even more because I was able to see how important the relationship between a mother and their medical professional is to get every key component of the pregnancy in the right direction, so that a healthy and beautiful blessing has a chance at life. I was thankful to have had professors at my University help me throughout the process of obtaining those internships.

My First Year at Hollins, I struggled with being homesick and not knowing my place on campus. This caused me to not only contemplate what made me choose Hollins but had an impact on my grades as well . Luckily, I was able to make Hollins my home in every way possible during my Sophomore Year. My grades and my dedication to Hollins reflects this in the most upstanding way. I was given many more opportunities to being more visible based on my personal drive to become a leader. I also gained positions that I would not have seen myself obtaining my Freshman Year. Hollins has truly become my home away from home and I have made lasting connections for life with a multitude of women that motivate me to keep being the empowered woman that I have always had the ability to be.

On top of my workload this semester of my Junior Year, I have a multitude of leadership roles at Hollins that I do not want to have to give up because I do not have the resources to be able to fully pay for this semester. I have been given the title of Vice President of the Community Service House at my University, a mentor to 2 incoming first years, as well as the Student Supervisor of the Phonathon that I have committed my time to since I was a freshman in my first semester. I am featured in the 2018 Winter edition of the Hollins Magazine which highlighted my affiliations and path at Hollins.

My mother is a single parent that is unable to provide the full funds to help with financial aid. She has always supported and encouraged me and my two older siblings to follow our dreams. She has been successful in assisting my older two siblings with completing their undergraduate degrees and my first two years at Hollins. My mother is now facing financial and emotional stress of her own and is unable to assist with my final two years of my undergraduate studies at Hollins University.

My father passed away December 4, 2017. It was unexpected. This has had a monumental affect on me and my outlook on life, as well as the person that I have the ability to become as long as I am proactive in the way that I make my decisions. I am passionate about making my parents proud and becoming the best Obstetrician that I can be, with the educational knowledge that will lead me there.

I am posting the amount to satisfy my tuition, room and board and fees for my Junior year. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. Funds are needed immediately. The absolute last day for check in for the Fall semester is 8/25/2018. Funds are due before the semester begins. I am asking for your help even if it is not an easy thing to do. Thank you in advance and God bless you.
