I had put up the white flag, re-set my life goals and plans, and found a way to be happy with an independent lifestyle for the rest of my life. I would be the fun aunt with the cool apartment in a little city. I would save my money to spend on my family and friends and extravagant meals because my paychecks would not have to go towards a family or bills to cover more than one person. I came to a place of acceptance and refreshing optimism about my new life direction, not closed off to the idea of love, but with an understanding that it may just never happen for me. In light of my new perspective I sat alone on the beach one summer day right after labor day when the local beaches were free and the crowds had left. Music in both ears, pen and paper on the towel in front of me, basically completely unapproachable and content as can be. Then She happened. A girl, a stranger in a bikini, walked cautiously up behind me catching me completely off guard. She knelt down and started talking to me, told me she had watched me walk on the beach, thought I was beautiful, and wanted to ask me to come sit with her and her friends. She changed my whole world that day. It was magic. As it turned out we lived a block from each other and had so much in common our connection was almost instant. We started dating the next day, were in a relationship a week later, ten days in we were in love, two months I moved in and three months the stranger in a bikini asked me to marry her, and I said yes. Everyone around us thinks were crazy for this whirlwind relationship, but Amber is my best friend and I have never been so sure about anything in my entire life. Iv'e always been the type of person who needed to train my mind, really work on getting it to think the way I needed it to so that I find happiness in whatever situation I might find myself in. But with Amber it's s effortless, I don't have to try, she is my person and I want to do everything I can to make her happy. I want to give her everything she wants, which is not a lot, but we have our hearts set on a venue for our wedding that overlooks the place on the beach that we first met, the place that changed both of our lives. It's in the city we met and live in and hold close to our hearts, Asbury Park. The venue is pricey and outside our budget but before giving up on it I want to try anything and everything I can to try for it, for her.
