I Desperately need your help!
I was born with a physical disability called Spina Bifida. This means I am permanently confined to a wheelchair. My father, now age 69, takes care of me on his own and has always tried to put my needs first. When my mother passed away 14 years ago from a brain tumour, he acquired a secondhand motorised wheelchair as it helped me greatly with my independence and he also wouldn't have to push me around especially when not at home.
Life has never been easy and because of my condition this means that I have to have regular checkups at our local Hospital and for about a decade my father has also needed regular visits to the Hospital as he has an enlarged prostate and also stones in his bladder. He is at the moment waiting to undergo surgery at a Government hospital.
Our vehicle, which was bought secondhand 12 years ago and is suitable for my needs as I need to sit in my wheelchair in it, is very heavy on petrol. It has served us well for many years, but now needs major maintenance and is in bad repair. Although my father has tried to maintain it, our finances have been depleted due to unforeseen circumstances and now we rely on Government grants which is hardly enough to live on, let alone enough for repairs to a vehicle which can accommodate me in my wheelchair.
To our horror, our vehicle has now broken down at the worst possible time! For me to be able to be transported around, we need a vehicle larger than a regular sedan so that I can be pushed up ramps into the vehicle. We have no extra income to spare. We live with my aunt and my father tries to earn extra income at flea-markets which is very unpredictable especially since Covid 19.
I know my father would like to have a reliable mode of transport as it is very worrying to him that we may get stuck on the road. I earnestly appeal to anyone to consider our predicament. Your assistance would be most greatly appreciated.
