Dear Friend:

My name is Rom Blanco, the seventh out of nine sons of a farmer from a remote town in the Philippine countryside, the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains in San Miguel Bulacan.

Because of the mission/vision of GreenEarth Heritage Foundation and its educational initiatives in our neck of the woods, I was blessed to become the first farmer’s child to receive an International School Manila (ISM) scholarship in its 92-year history in 2012. The education that I received for five years at ISM became a stepping-stone to my acceptance at Harvard this year.

Following are the links to my life story:

Poverty Should Not Be A Hindrance in Fulfilling One's Dreams

A Farmer’s Child wins the International School Manila Scholarship

I am writing you today because I have a dream.

Before I go to Harvard, I would love to explore my beautiful country of the Philippines, an archipelago of over 7000 islands.

I wish to appreciate its natural beauty, see for myself its myriad scenic landmarks and first-hand experience its various regional cultures.

I yearn to feel my people from all walks-of-life and hear their voice.

As a farmer’s child who has received an enormous blessing of quality education, I deeply yearn to touch the lives of thousands of rural poor children in my country, living in hopelessness and despair.. I will deliberately contact public schools and youth groups ahead of time wherever I can go to share my story and offer them a message of hope.

“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness”.

Sometimes, all it takes is one person to tell another “never give up” and it will lead to a dream fulfilled, just like what happened to me.

Would you support me in my dream to touch the lives of many rural poor children like me before I go to Harvard?

I would prefer to take with me not material things, but a ‘luggage’ full of beautiful memories of lives and experiences that I will never forget, all of which will serve as my constant inspiration as I envisage the bigger things that I can do for my country in the future.

I truly hope that my dream resonates with you. I would be very grateful for your support. Please share my appeal to your social network to help me widen my reach.

The number of places within my country that I will be able to visit will depend on how much I will be able to raise.
