Help us raise money this Winter for current and future visitors of the Neuro Intensive Therapy/High Dependancy Unit at Queens Hospital, Romford. This is a highly-specialised, 12-bedded medical department providing treatment for both neurosurgical patients (Head/Spine injuries, post elective neurosurgery etc) and neurology patients (Acute Stroke, Encephalitis etc) of all ages, and ensuring they and their families, friends and carers receive the best quality care and support now and in the future. Our goal is to offer a helping hand with this already outstanding care and support, by providing an assortment of items to comfort patients, and to relatives, friends and carers to help them connect with and support their loved ones when they need it most.

Intensive Care Units of a hospital are specialist wards with teams that provide intensive care (treatment and monitoring) for people in a critically ill or unstable condition. The Neuro Intensive Therapy Unit/High Dependancy Unit at Queens Hospital is a similar ward with a team of specialist neuro ITU nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, speech therapists and dieticians, who work together to provide the best support possible. Advanced monitoring techniques allow for modern and high quality care to be delivered 24 hours a day, at the same time providing high quality training to junior doctors and nurses. Patients in any intensive care unit need constant medical attention and support because their body may not be able to function properly. Medical equipment will take the place of these functions, such as breathing, while the patient recovers. In this time of recovery families, friends and carers are encouraged to interact with their loved one whether conscious or not, and the gifts we provide will help them do this.

At this moment in time £8 raised can buy a comforting teddy bear. £10 raised can buy nursery rhyme and poetry books to be read to child and adult patients by their carers, and £15 raised can buy a portable CD player and audiobook for the patient to listen to.

If you have any ideas for a gift that you think would be benefit a recovering patient, or someone that is caring for one, send us a message or leave them in a comment and they will be added to our list!
