Who Am I and who is SS Profiling?

SS Profiling is a steel manufacturing company in Brits, South Africa. We manufacture steel roof sheeting. The company's CEO (and cat lover), Theunis Duvenage and I, Sean Mitchell, an employee of SS Profiling have been feeding all the stray and feral cats around the area for approximately five years.

How did we end up feeding these cats?

In 2011 I noticed several cats living in the factory's gutters, exposed, wet, cold and hungry. The following day I filled a bowl of cat food near the gutter and within seconds several cats proceeded to force the food down their throats as fast as possible, so fast that they were nearly chocking to death. I had to quickly remove the food bowl and give them tiny amounts at a time over several hours. To see such hunger in a creature that is defenseless was extremely upsetting, I didn't sleep that night and decided to take it upon myself to make a small difference in the world.

In the following days I also noticed cat feces in certain area's soaked with blood, upon further inspection, I noticed it was nothing but shards of plastic. I realized that these animals were so hungry that they had to resort to having their intestines and stomachs shredded by eating plastic in garbage bins. Since that day, no cat has gone a single day without food.

I am proud to say I have since acquired cages to catch the cats and have had them neutered, de-wormed and vaccinated. More cats have been showing up lately, and created a need for financial aid.

Who is paying for all the food and vets bills etc etc?

Our CEO, Theunis Duvenage sponsors me enough food to feed most of the cats, I take care of the rest, however, with the increasing number of cats moving in I am starting to come up short and need help. With your help a kitty will have a warm blanket, and bowl of food tonight.

How many cats are we feeding?

I estimate we have about 125 cats living on our premises and at least another 10 or so that frequently visit for food.

Does anyone else know we are helping these cats?

Yes, a local newspaper, as well as a national magazine caught wind of what we have been doing and wrote a story on it a few years back. However we have not received any donations (I have not asked until now).

What will you do with the money if you get a donation?

Every single cent will go towards cat food. We do need a single cent for admin costs or any other costs what so ever. I earn a salary and can take care of myself. I would take donations in the physical form of cat food if I could. All we need is cat food to make this small part of the world a much better place for a few furry friends that desperately need us.

Do you ONLY look after cats?

No, we have rescued several dogs around the area and found loving homes for them. ANY animal in need will be helped.

Just how much money do you need to look after all these cats?

We only need about ZAR2600.00 South African Rand (About $185.00 US Dollars) per month to feed the cats. Additional costs are for antibiotics, Spaying & neutering.

To fix the cats, we have a special rate of about ZAR300.00 / $25.00US per animal, thanks to a local veterinarian. Long story short... we need between ZAR2600.00 to ZAR3500.00 / $185.00US to $250.00US per month.
