I am Siti Nuramelia and I am 16 years old. Ever since the broadcast on the mass migration of refugees to European countries was aired on CNN, I have become very much more inspired to help these people in need.
What makes me want to do this more than ever is how often I see people sharing videos or posts about this Syrian Crisis only to be futile in actually helping out these victims of their home being torn into a war zone. Sure these videos raise awareness but it upsets me very much how it really makes virtually zero difference to the lives of these Syrian Refugees. It frustrates me that I am just sitting here wanting to help them directly but because of circumstances, it is not possible for a 16 year-old to fly to Syria and help them. It is my dream one day to fly directly to Aleppo to gain insight into the conditions there. Until I can fulfil that goal, I want to do as much as I can for now within my means to aid in any way possible. The very fact that we do not accept any refugees spurs me even more to do something.
This is the first time I am attempting to carry out something this far-fetched. Many of my friends say that I am biting far more than I can chew by trying to start a nation-wide fundraiser on my own. Some people called me crazy and shrugged off my idea. But I decided if I took heart the negativity and not do something this meaningful with my life, then I would be no different from them. I would rather fail after trying than not have tried at all.
I really do hope I am able to do this for the refugees and it would make my life so much more meaningful if I get to help those in need. The funds collected from this page will directly go to Islamic Relief that is an international company and has a branch here in Singapore.
