Humanitarian aid for people from Honduras affected by the damage caused by ETA.

This GoGetFunding is for helping the people of Honduras who have been affected by the damage caused by Eta.

My name is Jaime Fabricio Mejia Mayorga. I am an English teacher from Honduras. Currently, I am an instructor and PhD student at the University of Arizona.

I came home to heal, visit my mom, relatives, and friends, and to find the strength I need to finish my degree. I have been here since Oct. 5. I am now trying to help my people. The damage caused by this natural event is hard to describe. People have lost their families, their houses, their belongings. Everything. And we, as Hondurans, have lost siblings, parents, children.

We need help.

We need help to get through this. We need help to provide for the basic needs that we all humans have: food, water, healthcare. To think that we are experiencing this while we are also experiencing a pandemic is just unthinkable. But we are. It is our reality.

We need help.

I am currently in the city of San Pedro Sula. The Sulla Valley, the area where I am, is destroyed. Please help us. And we need help because the Atlantic coast of the country is destroyed. And in many other places throughout the country, people are suffering and without communication and ways to move from one place to another as there were landslides, floods, and bridges destroyed.

Please help us.

As a people, we are coming together and we are helping our siblings. We, the people, are the ones helping the people. It has always been like that. And I prefer not to explain the reasons why because that is giving power to the evil. And I say little because I could be killed just as Berta Caceres and many other Indigenous and Afro-Indigenous leaders and siblings. We need help.

Please help us.

The money is being used to buy and cook food for the people in shelters as well as basic care items such as mattresses, clothes, toothbrushes, toilet paper, toothpaste, diapers, items for women’s intimate care, soap, and biosecurity items like disinfecting gel.

Please help us. And share this widely.

I know my people have the strength to get through this. We will. I have hope we will. But I also know that we can’t do this alone. We need help.

Please help us respond to this crisis so that families can stay together, so that they can hold on to life, so that they can keep hope. Please help us so that our children, our beautiful children, the most precious we have, can restore their lives. So that our children can enjoy being alive and rejoice in their humanity.

Mi nombre es Jaime Fabricio Mejia Mayorga. Soy un profesor de Inglés de Honduras. Actualmente, soy un instructor y estudiante de doctorado en la Universidad de Arizona.

Decidí regresar a casa para sanar, visitar a mi mama, familiares, y amigos, y para encontrar la fuerza que necesito para terminar mi doctorado. He estado aquí en Honduras desde el 5 de octubre. Y ahora estoy tratando de ayudar a mi gente. El daño causado por este evento natural no es fácil de describir. Las personas han perdido a sus familiares, sus casas, sus pertenencias. Han perdido todo. Y nosotros como hondureños hemos perdido hermanas y hermanos, padres, hijos. Necesitamos ayuda.

Necesitamos que nos ayuden a superar este evento. Necesitamos ayuda para satisfacer las necesidades básicas que todos los humanos tenemos como comida, agua, salud. Y necesitamos ayuda porque estamos experimentando este desafío en medio de una pandemia. Solo pensarlo parece una exageración, una historia de terror. Pero es nuestra realidad. Es la realidad de los hondureños. Necesitamos ayuda.

Actualmente me encuentro en la ciudad de San Pedro Sula. El valle de Sula, que es el área en donde estoy, está destruído. Por favor, ayúdennos. Y necesitamos toda la ayuda posible porque la costa atlántica del país está destruida. En otras partes del país, la gente está sufriendo y sin comunicación y sin la manera de irse a otro lugar por los derrumbes, las inundaciones, y los puentes que ya no están.

Por favor, ayúdennos.

Como pueblo, nos hemos juntado y hemos estado ayudando a nuestras hermanas y hermanos. Nosotros, el pueblo, la gente particular, somos los que estamos ayudando al pueblo afectado. Siempre ha sido así. Y prefiero limitarme a hablar al respecto porque eso es darle poder al maligno, es hacerlos protagonistas de esta catástrofe. Y me limito porque me pueden matar, así como mataron a Berta Cáceres y a otros líderes y hermanos Indígenas y Afro-Indígenas. Necesitamos ayuda. Por favor, ayúdennos.

El dinero se está utilizando para comprar y cocinar comida para las personas en los refugios y también para comprar productos para el cuidado y bienestar personal como colchones, ropa, pasta de dientes, cepillos de dientes, papel higiénico, pañales, productos para el cuidado íntimo de las mujeres, jabón, y otros productos de bioseguridad como el gel desinfectante.

Por favor, ayúdennos. Y compartan esta campaña lo más que puedan.

Yo sé que mi gente tiene la fuerza para sobreponerse de este evento. Yo sé que vamos a vencer. Tengo la esperanza de que así será. Pero también sé que no vamos a poder hacer esto nosotros solos. Necesitamos ayuda.

Ayudennos a que podamos responder ante esta crisis para que así las familias hondureñas puedan estar juntas, para que puedan seguir con vida, para que puedan mantener la esperanza. Por favor ayúdenos para que nuestros niños, nuestros niños que son una bendición, lo más preciado que tenemos, puedan restablecer sus vidas. Ayudennos para que nuestros niños puedan ser felices y disfrutar del hecho de que están vivos, para que se regocijen y disfruten su humanidad.
