Steven Anthony Cross, also known as Sean to his friends and family, has spent the past few years as an active volunteer of a non-profit organization advocating for human rights. His advocacy work focused mainly around gender equality and LGBTQIA+ rights, known to be a much debated topic in the Philippines, and he has never backed down or shied away from standing up for those who needed it most. Now, this once enthusiastic activist and humanist is the one in need of help and support.

He recently fell sick and had to focus on his well-being, eventually being bedridden due to extreme difficulty breathing and sciatica. After a month of extreme ups and downs in his condition, he was admitted on July 12, 2023 at Perpetual Medical Center in Las Pinas City. He has now been there for approximately two weeks with no idea of how long he will have to remain in their care.

He has undergone a battery of tests to try and find the source of his illness. Despite having numerous tests done, there are more that must be conducted to confirm what is happening to him. The bulk of his bloodwork has been sent to another medical center and it will take another week to release the results. As he waits nervously for these results, he is being treated for pneumonia and receives his medication through IV in high doses, costing approximately Php 40,000.00 each time they order the vials. Recently, these medications had to be outsourced because Perpetual ran out of their own supply, doubling the cost. Since he was not able to get out of bed and walk for almost a month, he must take blood thinners orally to avoid blood clots. A complete breakdown of his medication and their cost is available upon request.

Although he is eligible for Philhealth benefits, there is no confirmation yet as to how much will be covered and there is definitely no way it will cover the current bill as it now stands at approximately Php 400,000. There is also no assurance of when he will be discharged as he still can’t breathe on his own. This means that his bill will continue to grow over the following weeks. At present, all cash has run out and credit cards have been maxed out.

We humbly ask for your help to start paying off this bill so Sean can continue to get the medical care he needs. Proof of his billing is available up on request. Any amount is appreciated and will be a great help.
