Today, I stood in a line for 2 and a half hours to cast a vote for early voting in the election. It was so cold and such a long wait that some people decided to leave without casting their vote. After voting, my sisters and I decided to go buy 30 cups of hot chocolate to give to the other people still standing in line in. When we returned with two large boxes of hot chocolate yelling "hot chocolate for the voters!" people were in shock, so grateful and happy that someone thought of them. It felt amazing but was bittersweet because there were some people who wanted some but we didn't have enough for everyone. I wished I had enough money to go back and get more. A small gesture of kindness goes a long way especially to encourage others to endure in order to vote. So we plan to do this again on November 6 when it will likely be even colder. Our goal is to raise enough money for 400 cups of coffee to hand out. We would like for any local donators (DC, MD, VA) to email us their contact information at [email protected] so that you can join us in handing out hot chocolate and share in this wonderful experience!
