Help Erwin Live! Give Hope for the Win

Let me tell you about my friend Erwin. He is funny, helpful, loving, multitalented and God-fearing. For the past 6 years, I have seen him beat the odds. Born to a large family and impoverished since childhood, he worked as our church custodian and managed to finish a technical training (TESDA) as a computer programmer. He could have left, but he stayed to pay back kindness with service. At 26 years old, Erwin is full of life, full of plans, full of dreams.

That is, until he was stricken with severe abdominal pain and prolonged vomiting. Eventually, a large liver tumor was seen on his ultrasound and CT scan.

Erwin--funny, friendly, full of life--is now battling Hepatocellular Carcinoma (liver cancer), a tumor in his right liver lobe so big that the unaffected part will not be enough for him to live. HCCa usually leaves NO survivors if left untreated. 3 of his siblings have already expired due to the same illness. His friends all want the same thing. WE WANT TO GIVE HIM A FIGHTING CHANCE.

Right now, his hope for survival lies in SIRT (Selective Internal Radiation Therapy), a procedure that involves injecting a radioactive isotope Yttrium-90 into the tumor to make it shrink so his surgeon can remove the sick part of the liver without endangering his life. This process is only available at some of the biggest private hospitals in Manila, and will require major funds.
