Known by many as Pol or Mac, Paul Mark San Andres (35 years old) is a great singer, always friendly and almost remembers everyone by name. We got married in June 2017 and we’re finally expecting our first child. It’s bittersweet that we received news about his cancer a day after we confirmed our pregnancy.

In March 2018, he was diagnosed with Tongue Cancer (Squamous cell carcinoma) because of a sore on his tongue that does not heal even after several medications. A small part of his right tongue was removed to prevent it from spreading, and he was in good health for a few months. In October 2018, he started feeling numbness in his left jaw. Initially we thought that it was a dental case since his x-ray showed an impacted tooth but even after a surgery in January 2018, the swelling and pain continued. Biopsy results confirmed that cancer has spread to his left jaw. His first treatment plan was a combination of chemo and radiation therapy which started in February. He already completed 35 sessions of radiation and five cycles of chemotherapy. However, his treatment plan recently changed due to a new swelling on his left cheek that’s extending to his right jaw. He is now on two lines of chemotherapy drugs, one is given weekly (PhP 13,800 plus other expenses) and the other one every 21 days (chemo drugs plus hospitalization expenses).

Our family would like to request medical/ financial assistance to help in continuing his treatment. The chemotherapy drugs are costly aside from other expenses like hospital bills, wound cleaning supplies, professional fees and laboratory tests. He also needs milk prescribed for diabetic patients since he has been on Nasogastric tube feeding for five months now. We have already exhausted our savings, and both his health insurance (Intellicare and Philhealth), thankfully we still have his PWD benefits. He stopped working before December 2018 ended, I am still working to help with our expenses but will soon be on Maternity Leave. We are aiming to raise funds both for continuing his chemotherapy and other medical expenses. We do not have a time frame yet to confirm when his treatment will be complete.Any help you can extend is greatly appreciated. Thank you for bringing Hope to Paul.

  • I don't know you but i am touched by your story and feel your pain and worries. When we were little, my father was also diagnosed to have cancer. He thought he would never see us grow up. But he and my mother stayed faithful and continued pray for a miracle. Me and my sisters were still in elementary school then. Fast-forward. He has served major callings in the Church including stake president, mission president and at the time of his death as a patriarch. I am not promising a miracle. Just comfort for whatever the will of the Lord will be. Here's hoping and praying for what is best for you, May you have a safe delivery and be able to take care of your child and raise her/him well. Keep on praying.
