Late hours of February 26th, 2020, our beloved Gilbert Devera was outside of his house in Mbare, Harare, Zimbanwe when he was trying to clean a drum for external use a strange explode happened to him after lighting fire for the removal of acrylic polymer that was inside. He was cleaning the drum as he wanted to sell diesel from a black market since in Zimbabwe they is shortage of fuel, as he was finding means of survival during this hard times in Zimbabwe that led him to start a small business for him to take care of the family. for one night for light explosive, but the course of his life was changed forever.

Despite the presence of up to 15 people in the street, Gilbert was the only person burnt in the explosion , and his injuries are severe. The steam/fire burnt at the face and that affected the face skin and eyes. It is a miracle that he is alive, and the progress he has already made towards recovery – including regaining partial control of his breathing and sight recovery– has defied doctors' expectations.

The road to recovery for Gilbert will be long, but he is dedicated to continuing his journey and living a full life. As we, his immediate family, are still in the wake of this devastating tragedy, it’s difficult to imagine what the future holds, but we know that Gilbert will never cease to be the brilliant, beautiful, hardworking, and vivacious man that he is. We simply need to be able to support him along that journey.

We are asking for your help to cover the costs of hospital bills , dressing of new bandages that happens everyday with a new list of prescription and 24/7 care for Gilbert as he transitions into a life that is different, but still his own. We also need help with transportation, and food costs for our family as we support him during this time. Your support means the world to Gilbert and to all of us.

His compassion for others is palpable, his creativity knows no bounds, and he is beloved by all those who know him. He is a truly remarkable person, and we know his journey to recovery will be no different.
