In 2012, my husband and I along with four horses, two donkeys and three dogs moved from the UK to the Dordogne in France. It soon became apparant how many animals were in need, within no time we had rescued another three donkeys, five goats and a dog. Unfortunately animals needing help seems to be endless. Within the last two weeks we have taken our most recent donkeys and only today have been asked to take three more. We have land, expertise, time and lots of love, more importantly a team of professionals on hand to include vets, farrier and dentist. All of these services are ongoing costs but initially what we need are the necesssary funds to purchase a field shelter for the latest two donkeys we have been asked to take. Donkeys coats are not waterproof, Winter is upon us and a field shelter is vital for their well being, without one we simply cannot give them a home. Transport has been donated to bring them here and we can welcome them into their forever home as soon as a shelter is in place.

Our initial fundraiser generated enough with external donations also, a total of €1500 to build the shelter, which we are extremely greatful for and although the owner decided to keep the two donkeys in question in the end, another donkey soon took his place here at Hooves!

Our next project is to put a concrete floor into the old piggery, change the doors to stable doors and kit out as this is going to be our treatment and rehabilitation/isolation block, for any sick donkeys and when donkeys need to be indoors, for example vet visits, as they will not treat outdoors. The work for this has been costed at €1700

Thankyou for reading and more importantly supporting in any way you can, from all the long eared little guys in need of help!

We are also in the early stages of registering as an association and will update as necessary.

***We have an urgent fundraiser as we have been asked to take three donkeys who will be abandoned within the next five days. It is a very difficult situation and we have somebody liasing with the current owners on our behalf whilst we try to secure their safety and hopefully their move here. The basic cost to cover the three to enable them to travel is €600. This pays for their chip, passports and vaccines which is essential to travel. We will have vet, farrier and worming fees on top of these costs which like our other donkeys will be ongoing.

We have added the urgent 600 needed onto our ongoing fundraiser and will update any donations on our Facebook page. Hooves at Cheyroux. ***

Thankyou so much x
