Home Sick - Our Story

Why This Film?
(Our Director's Statement)
Hi everyone’s , thanks so much for clicking and showing interest in our film! My name is Cai Fa and as the writer and director of Home Sick. When I saw the news and so many Malaysia worked in Singapore but was force to part way from their hometown due to the pandemic, the word so couldn’t express out myself but through the story to tell. This script was written together with a group friends, mix of China, Malaysia and Singapore. Written from a mixed point of view, I wanted to give a very raw and realistic take on the characters, and their inner development as they learn more about themselves and each other over the span of 1 night. This is intended to be portrayed through the gradual change of their life , including the crude pandemic hit, to give depth to the world that I was trying to portray- a world that included nuances of life, family love, and its effect on individuals.
The team and I are extremely passionate to make this story come to life. We want to spark conversation about the family love and the prevalence of struggling he faced, and use a creative medium to show supportive and appreciative to them. in countries with rapid growing economies, such as Singapore. Through the film, we want to shine a spotlight and juxtapose the often portrayed glamorous city-state with its harsh reality – focusing on the lifestyles of people living in the slums of Singapore.
How Can You Help?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team has been facing multiple challenges in trying to give life to the story, including having additional compulsory safety equipment to procure, as well as measurements and restrictions to uphold for the production. As such, our current estimated production expenditure is SGD 3,000.
It would mean so much to us if you could contribute to the film and help us make this film a reality. Any amount, big or small, would make a huge difference. Your donations will contribute to:
1. Cast Fees
2. Equipment and Location Rental
3. Art Direction (Set Design, Wardrobe, and Props)
4. Meals for the Crew and Cast Members
5. Transportation Costs for Equipment, Art and Manpower
6. COVID-19 Safety Equipment
For more information on where your donation will go to, do drop us an email at [email protected] and we will be more than happy to share! Do also share our campaign and spread the word to your friends and family - every share would mean a lot to us :)
