My name is Abby and I am a freshman at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. I moved here from a small town in Michigan, and I love everything about this school that I attend. I have reached out to gogetfunding.com because I am in need of financial help in order to pay for my tuition. I do not come from a family that has a lot of money. Actually, I don't even have a place right now that I can call home. When I was a junior in high school, I started to live with some friends of mine. I did not know how long I would be there, nor did I know where I was going next. By the end of the school year, I was in trouble again and did not know what to do. Luckily, a friend of mine's mother offered to let me stay at their home until I could find somewhere else to go. Eventually, they asked me to stay with them until I graduated high school. Then after senior year ended, they offered for me to stay until I left for college. They have been such a blessing to me.
Once it came time to decide where to attend college, I did not know what I wanted to do. I knew I could not afford to go off to a four year university, but staying in Michigan and attending community college was not an option either. How would I go to community college when I did not have anywhere to live? I had to explore my options. I knew that I had to go off to college somewhere. Then, I would finally have a stable place to live where I could feel at home. Time was ticking, so I had to decide where to go. It took me awhile to pick a school because I did not think I would be able to afford to go anywhere. Then, Bowling Green State University caught my eye. I had applied to quite a few schools a few months before just so that I could have options. I remember visiting the school and falling in love with the campus. Also, I found out that the tuition was cheaper than a lot of other schools that I looked at. Even though it was out of state, I figured that if i received enough scholarships and financial aid, then I would be able to afford my tuition if I started working as soon as I moved away to college. I worked on my financial aid, receive scholarships because I am an independent, and I took our loans as well. Yet, that did not cover all of my expenses.
During the summer before college, I continued to work 40+ hours a week at the community hospital that I was working at for the past two years. Ever since I could remember, I paid for everything myself. I paid for my phone bill, gas, insurance, food, clothes, and I even paid off the bills that were due to BGSU in order to enroll. Also, I saved up some of my money in order to rent books for school and to pay for things I needed for my dorm. Also, I found out that the school offered free laptops that could be used during the school year.
Once I moved to college, I could finally say that I felt like I was at home. I had a dorm room that I could come home to every night and call my own. No one here had to know that I had struggled to get here or that it was the first time in years that I felt at home. I had a fresh start all over again with a bunch of people my age who had a fresh start to their lives as well. I got a job here as a hostess at a restaurant and I just recently applied at a retirement home in order to get more hours and make more money. At the end of the day, I still do not have enough to cover all of the expenses that come with college.
I have made it through the first semester, but that was just the first half of it. I got an email this morning that said if I do not pay my bills in time for second semester, then I will have to leave and drop my spring classes as well. I can not leave, where would I go? This is my new home. Even if I do work extra hard to pay for my tuition bills every month, how am I going to afford to pay for my books as well as a calculator for math or new notebooks?
This is why I have turned to this website. I am out of options and I would like to give it a try. Even the smallest donations will make the biggest differences for me. I will be so thankful for every one of you who help me out. I care about my future and I am a hard worker. I have set big goals for myself so that one day I could have a house of my own and not have to worry about struggling financially anymore.
If my story has inspired you or if you are understanding of my situation, I ask that you please help me out. Again, I will appreciate any donation and I am so thankful for this opportunity.
Thank you for reading and God bless you!
