For the last three months my husband and I have been homeless and sleeping on the streets. This all started in January when I lost my car and job. I had a car I was making payments on and a job that was barely keeping a roof over our heads. At my job they drastically reduced everyone’s hours to barely 20 forcing everyone to look for work elsewhere, myself included. In order to keep a roof over our heads I had to push back my car payments until hours picked up or I was able to find another job. My husband at the time was trying very hard to find a job that he could walk to should he happen to have to work while I was gone to work. He could not however find a job near us but is still very much trying. I ended up losing my car due to this which caused me to lose my job due to it being 26 miles away in a different city. I had no way of getting there so I ended up losing my job. Along with losing my car and job we lost our home. We started calling and talking to every church, charitable organization and dhs in our area with no help at all being given to us to get off the streets. We have looked and asked around but there are no homeless shelters where we live to help either. We have been sleeping on the streets since the end of January with temperatures dropping to around and below freezing. This has sadly caused me to get sick a few times and right now is one of those times when I am sick. We have reached out to friends, family and everyone we know but no one is willing to help and has disowned us. We have both been applying for all jobs we can find that we can walk to but haven’t been having any luck. We have been sitting inside a McDonald’s all day from 5am to about 9 or 10pm to get away from the elements (cold or currently heat). We have been sleeping behind a dumpster on some cardboard we have found. We go here every night in order to not be seen, harassed or attacked by any people. We are very tired and hungry as we don’t get to eat but once or twice a day and the cold temperatures at night make it to where we’re unable to sleep without shivering. These cold temperatures have affected me worse than him. I have low iron and am anemic so the cold hits me harder to where I can’t stop shaking even when I’m wearing layers of clothes. We are looking for a little help in order to get off the streets so we can get our lives back and get a warm and safe roof over our heads again.
