Home Ventilator for Baby Andrei

I am Emy Santillana and my husband Glenn Paul Santillana we are from Paco, Manila. Our 8 months old son Baby Andrei has been in and out from the hospital since he was born last December 2018 with difficulty breathing due to neonatal Pneumonia. He stayed in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for almost 13 days.
March 14, 2019, he was 3 months old then he was admitted in the hospital again for 15 days due to Aspiration Pneumonia. We have been borrowing money from our family and friends to pay for his hospital bills and to sustained his medical needs.

Last May 25, 2019, we rushed him to the hospital again due to difficulty breathing. He turned blue due to lack of oxygen in his body. He is currently placed in ICU for almost 3 months now at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center in Quezon City. He is now intubated, and the doctors tried to extubate him twice but, they failed. He can no longer tolerate his breath without the help of mechanical ventilator. Having been in a lot of procedures and tests to know the cause of his illness like MRI, EEG, CT Scan, EMG NCV, He was diagnosed of Phrenic Nerve Palsy or paralyzed diaphragm, bilateral, secondary to Critical Illness Polyneuropathy, Severe Pneumonia with consolidation and tubular bronchiectasis. The Doctor’s recommendation says that he is in need of a home mechanical ventilator to help him breath upon discharged for he can’t stay long enough in ICU that he might acquire some infections.

He is also scheduled for operation for tracheostomy and gastrostomy tube insertion for his feeding to avoid repeat aspiration Pneumonia and to be hospitalized again and again.

Mechanical Ventilator is so expensive and we can’t afford to purchase one since we only have a minimum income. The doctor's adviced us that his condition really needs a close attention and monitoring and that made us to decide to give up our full time job to look after him and to go and fro to submit requirements in some government institution to ask for help in our huge hospital bills.

We are knocking at your kind heart to help our son to have a mechanventilator for him to continue his recovery at home. He is so precious to us and we want him to live long and seeing him one day fully recovered fulfilling his very purpose in life.
