Home Sweet Home LGBTQ - Senior Housing

The Goby Foundation, has identified a problem of our society, a shortcoming, which, within the limits of our strength, we intend to solve. It is about the lack of protection of the elderly in the LGBT category. Although the legislation in Romania is, for the most part, aligned with the European legislation in the field, and, theoretically, these people also benefit from support from the state and society, as well as other older people, in practice, things it is not like that.

According to Article 35 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, "everyone has the right of access to preventive health care and social assistance under national law and practice". Article 168 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union confers limited legislative competence in the field of public health which, in principle, remains to a large extent the prerogative of each member state. At national level, in romania, the principle of non-discriminatory access to health care is stipulated in Law no. 95/2006, republished in 2015. Thus, according to art. 98, para. (7), ''qualified first aid and emergency medical care shall be provided without any discrimination related to, but not limited to, income, sex, age, ethnicity, religion, nationality or political affiliation, whether or not the patient is insured medical. Separately, OG 137/2000 prohibits discrimination as a general principle and provides that access to health care, as a fundamental right of Romanian citizens, must be granted on an equal basis.

However, older people who want to retire to a nursing home are often rejected because of their sexual orientation, or are accepted in the first phase, and are subsequently discriminated and abused psychoemotional. Abuse of the elderly continues today throughout the world, without anyone being able to protect them and provide them with the necessary support to harmonize the time they have left to live.

Following the socio-medical and socio-cultural studies, made in Romania and in Europe, we found the need for a place dedicated to the elderly from the LGBTQ community. This aspect determined the GOBY FOUNDATION to take a stand and build the first old people's home for the "minority" community in Romania, allowing access to all LGBTQ people around the Europe. We found, moreover, that the same problem, the lack of care and support for the elderly in the LGBTQ category, is present in all Europe.There are only a few Gay Friendly old people's homes that have very few places available.

The Goby Foundation proposes a project dedicated and intended only for the elderly from the LGBTQ community, offering the possibility for Gay, Lesbian, Tran people to be treated with dignity and responsibility as it is normal, human and natural to happen. This is a pilot project at the Romanian level, and we want it to be subsequently implemented in other European countries.

Home Sweet Home LGBT-Senior Housing is a care center for elderly from LGBTQ community, a warm and welcoming place, where they can live with other people/ riends/life partners with the same sexual orientation. For this people, at old age, it becomes quite difficult because they are left alone, continuing to hide their orientation so as not to be judged and stigmatized by society. Retirement for this category of people can often be a trigger of depression, anxiety, isolation, because they will no longer have the same activities that fill their time and forget that, in some situations, they live hiding their sexual orientation.

In Home Sweet Home LGBT-Senior Housing, it is no longer necessary to hide, to renounce to your orientation, you are free to be YOU and to receive the necessary and real support, without being discriminated or stigmatized, alsoby the employed staff, because the staff will be chosen with great care in this direction.

We will all grow old, and we certainly want to be part of society, regardless of color, religion, sexual orientation, we have all participated in the development of the country, of the planet, and, therefore we have the right to a decent and balanced old age, as much as we it is still possible to enjoy the time we still have.

That's why we need the support of the entire LGBTQ community and Gay friendly people to start the project, we need the involvement of the whole community to will accelerate the project and to help the people who need support right now.
