I had met this beautiful girl 5 years ago and I knew for sure she was the one on first sight. I had never met anyone so kind hearted and spontaneous, cute and loving before. We have so much in common and I reassured myself that it would be a great shame to lose someone who knew me for being me and not for being who they want me to be, someone who actually cared. I proposed to her when the egyptian pound still had some of its value left (1$=9egp) and had already planned our marriage and its costs ahead. I talked to my parents about it after finally getting her consent to marry me. But that was only the beginning of the journey with its sudden turn of events that I hadn't taken into account. We were supposed to get married in this small apartment my father owns until after how many years of negotiating with her family that I'm still young and that this apartment is not easy for an egyptian 20 year old young man to have and after finally having won their acceptance over the apartment I've been told by my father that the person renting it wasn't paying his rent and that he wouldn't leave although the rental period stated in the contract had ended since 2 years. We were in school together for 4 years and I've been naiive thinking that having a job while studying even if the pay was weak would help as long as I had the apartment of my dad's... he would then easily transfer the ownership as promised but that wasn't the issue. Before her family accepted the apartment despite its size I had asked and was promised by my grandfather that he would help me with a bigger apartment and we stopped negotiating with them until my granddad came back from his travels which took some time and after he came back it was all for nothing since he actually can't help because the apartments, as opposed to what he thought, have become too expensive (where 1$ was equivalent to 18egp and the value of my savings was theoretically cut to half). I've since then found a better paying job for a good living but not for an entire flat. We'd raised a lawsuit against the renter which went on for 2 years and still counting.. typical egyptian courts.. my grandfather has an issue with His apartment for which he had raised a lawsuit 15 years ago and didn't get any results until now. We're not sure if it's bribery or negligence but the same applies to our lawsuit since I have had it one day and asked my dad to see how things are going ourselves together instead of getting the standard answer from our lawyer everytime: next week will be the last session. What we found was nothing. We couldn't trace our case and the clerics couldn't find it and we didn't have any clues or documents supporting that it ever existed. I've blamed my father for being overly dependent on the lawyer. It's been 5 years and although a lot has happened against our favor, our feelings towards each other haven't chabged and we still wish to take the next step with a new home. My family can't afford a new apartment and I'm almost half way through with my savings for an apartment.
