Hi everyone!

I have decided to spend my gap year volunteering for various causes around the world. I will begin by volunteering in an orphanage in Ghana for three weeks in October. I'll be working alongside local staff with teaching, general childcare and the daily running of the orphanage. I am trying to raise money to help me get there!

Here is a little information about the work I will be doing while I am there. PMGY's orphanage volunteers programme in Ghana works to brighten the lives of young children making a vital and important contribution to their daily lives. Like many developing countries, Ghana has a large number of children who find themselves in the care of an orphanage. Not all children at the orphanages have lost their parents, some arrive from abusive homes and others are taken into care as their parents cannot afford to look after them. Many of the children arrive at a very young age, as their mothers die in childbirth and have no one to look after them. However, the home also accepts abandoned children, street children and children of unstable parents, so ages can range anywhere from newborn babies to upper teens. The orphanage is basic, under resourced and in much need of volunteers assistance.

We will be placed at Kumasi Children’s Home which was established in 1965. It is currently home to around 100 children. The home cares for both girls and boys, and also children who suffer from disabilities. I will assist in care such as feeding and washing, as hygiene is a vital part of a childs life in a developing country. Teaching children who may not have the opportunity to ever go to school will be incredibly rewarding, as well as playing with them and spending much needed one on one time with children who cant be given the attention they so badly need. In addition to this I will be cleaning and helping out around the orphanage in any way I can!

I want to do this trip so badly as I absolutely love kids, and working alongside such selfless people in a very disadvantaged place will make me appreciate my own life so much more.

It would be amazing if people could donate as little or as much as they can to help me on this once in a lifetime experience. Every little helps, and even the smallest donation will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much!! xxx
