Hogar Rosa de Amor

Hogar Rosa de Amor is a home in San Lucas, Guatemala for children that have been removed from their homes by court order due to neglect and abuse. These children have witnessed and experienced sexual, verbal, and physical abuse and the orphanage strives to give the children so much love and support as they are dealing with all that they have experienced. 

Although these children have been abused and hurt in the past, the love that pours out of them is amazing. I spent eleven weeks volunteering at Rosa de Amor last summer and the amount of love I felt from the children and staff was life changing. 

Several of the children have special needs and each child sees the psychologist in the home at least once per week. In addition to supporting these children, the home also takes in over nine children from impoverished homes in the neighborhood each afternoon for two hours to receive tutoring and food.

Rosa, the woman in charge of the home, has big dreams for the future. She wants to be able to construct more buildings on the land because the home is currently full. She also wants to have room to educate and work with the children with special needs. 

But before she can think about the future, she has to scrap for funds for this month. Currently, Rosa de Amor is struggling more than ever with trying to raise enough support and funds to get by. Recently, staff at the orphanage have not been able to come to work because there are not enough funds to pay their salaries. One of the girls broke her leg and the home couldn't afford crutches. The van that is used to transport the children to and from school safely cannot be used because they don't have enough money for gas. They are in great need of financial supnport. Donations will be used to pay gas/rent/electric bills, supplement staff members’ salaries, and for the purchase of materials such as food, clothing, bedding, and school supplies.
