I am one of the volunteer counselors here in the Philippines, and currently the contract under the Global Fund's funding for HIV ending it support for us assigned in various institutions in the country. All I get per month is a $ 241 stipend that I spend every month paying for bills and paying for my accommodation. In fact, it's not easy to live where I stand today. As of today, there is no doubt what the DOH HIV program does not have any plans helping to get a regular position in the institutions for counselors serving the community. I recently tried to apply for an HIV Practice Course in Singapore which will take place on November 25. And now I am struggling to find financial help to get there because I am not getting enough on my stipend to support it. It will be a great help for me to take this course as I will be expanding my knowledge on new ways to help PLHIVs (People Living with HIV) and those in the country who wanted to get themselves tested. Frankly the DOH itself do not have the support and provide such courses in the country.
