Hiraeth is a Welsh word meaning nostalgia, or homesickness. Difficult to translate, it embodies a sense of longing for a lost time or era; a feeling of absence for a place or a person.
We are students of MA Documentary Photography, at the University of South Wales. Hiraeth is our graduate exhibition in October, where we’ll be showcasing our work; stories from home, and far away places.
Rich in diversity, we share a commitment to tell our stories with empathy and understanding. Our projects include: intimate autobiographical revelations, observations of the complexities of family life, connections with ancestral heritage, and stories of place. In all of these we aspire to interrogate and challenge established narratives.
For all of us, photography is the best medium to communicate the complex issues that make our stories interesting and relevant in our time.
From traditional prints and photo-books to digital platforms and conceptual installations, we strive to reach new audiences through the power of photography.
We’re excited to bring Hiraeth to London, and we need your support.
We’re raising money to hold our exhibition at The Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane during a festival of arts and photography. We aim to deliver a high-quality exhibition and we need financial support for marketing, transport, venue hire, exhibition installation and the preview event.
Our kickstarter pledges range from £10 for photography prints to £200 for a personal portrait session. Something for every budget and excellent value.
