I check our village AED periodically to ensure that it is in working order, the battery is good, pads are in date and all of the necessary equipment is there in case it is ever needed.

So far to date Yorkshire Ambulance Service have sent someone for it on 6 separate occasions, though thankfully has never been needed to defibrillate a patient.

The battery and defibrillator pads do expire however, as the battery starts to run flat and the pads become less effective as the gel used in them starts to degrade.

I set up a go fund me page to initially raise funds to purchase the AED, however managed to get it and all of the other equipment free of charge.

We still need to raise funds for when the battery and pads need to be replaced.

I personally hope you waste your money and the village defibrillator is never used, however please donate so we can keep this lifesaving equipment in working order and available should the need ever arise.

Thank you.

Any support you can give will be received very gratefully.

By having the Automated External Defibrillator available to the surrounding public this means that we can help cut death tolls that are increasing every year.

So What is Community Public Access Defibrillation (CPAD) All About?

THE TARGET SET BY THE GOVERNMENT FOR AMBULANCE TRUSTS THROUGHOUT THE UK IS TO REACH 75% OF LIFE THREATENING CALLS WITHIN 8 MINUTES.

STATISTICS SHOW THAT EARLY DEFIBRILLATION CAN INCREASE THE SURVIVAL CHANCES OF A PERSON WHO HAS SUFFERED A SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST BY AS MUCH AS 50%.

In rural areas like Hinderwell and surrounding villages, this is very difficult to achieve.

In these situations, access to emergency first aid techniques, including CPR and using an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) can be make the difference between life and death.

  • Today I was in Tesco when an 82 year old collapsed and appeared to stop breathing in front of me.Fortunately this man came back round however it was clear he was showing classic signs of a heart attack.Whilst speaking to the Ambulance controller they asked me if there was a defibrillator on site. The answer from the manager no. This man was lucky the Ambulance was there in less than 3 minutes. It was the longest 3 minutes of my life whilst thinking I could be doing CPR soon. Support for more DEFIBRILLATORS. Hinderwell is remote unlike Middlesbrough.
