Campaign Story
Hello and welcome to my all-around Lantau Hike!
What
From Friday 25 June to Tuesday 29 June, my sister Renata and I will be hiking around the whole of our beloved Lantau Island: ~108 km in 5 days! Our goals are to raise money for the Ark Eden Foundation, to raise awareness of local environmental projects, and most importantly to encourage YOU to get involved! 😊
Why (our inspiration)
This hike is inspired by the Green Jewel Lantau Tomorrow Vision and the amazing students who created it (check out their work here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JJ_IX9FEIl...). ‘Green Jewel Lantau' is a vision of Lantau where, through community based projects, we can develop nature-based solutions to protect the biodiversity of our blue seas and green woodlands. In the spirit of this initiative, we will be hiking all around Lantau’s coast.
So what do you want me to do?
Any or all of the following -
1.Donate through this page to Ark Eden, a Lantau-based permaculture and eco-education centre. Over the last 15 years, Ark Eden has planted 35,000 trees, rehabilitated the soil on Lantau’s hilltops, and run hundreds of eco-education camps for children from all over HK, allowing them to play and nurture their imaginations while developing their green thumbs.
Next, Ark Eden would like to start hosting community open days at their site in Mui Wo on the last Sunday of every month!! Your kind donations will go towards facilitating these events. The events will include children's activities, wellness, and permaculture.
Most importantly - during every open day Ark Eden will work with the local community to develop and provide nature-based solutions for the future. Our goal is to nurture Lantau as the Green Jewel of Hong Kong. If you're in HK & want to learn more, you will be most welcome at these events.

2.Read up on environmental projects in your local area (here are some HK-based examples: https://www.ecomarinehongkong.org/ https://www.plasticfreeseas.org/ https://www.hksharkfoundation.org/)…
3.…and then go and get involved with them! Preserving oceans, forests and the animals they support is going to take all the help the world can get.
4. Share this page far and wide online so that (a) we can raise more $$ for Ark Eden's community events and (b) people can learn more about how to get involved with environmental work in Hong Kong, a city that desperately needs to preserve its countryside. Protecting Lantau is a team effort and everyone can join.
OK, but what’s in it for me?
The self-satisfied feeling of being a Good Person. Also, to help motivate you further, if we exceed our initial goal of HK$10,000 and get to HK$20,000, then my sister will dye her hair GREEN (those of you who know her will know that this idea does NOT appeal to her. I would offer to take one for the team but my hair’s already pink hehe).
I’m a hiking nut, give me some stats on your route.
We’re aiming to stay as close to the coast as possible – so our planned route includes beaches, hiking trails, pavements and road, as well as loops around various peninsulas. It works out as roughly 25-27 km/day for the first four days, followed by a short hop from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo on Day 5.
Day 1 – Mui Wo to Tong Fuk via the Chi Ma Wan Peninsula
Day 2 – Tong Fuk to Tai O via the Fan Lau Peninsula
Day 3 – Tai O to Tung Chung
Day 4 – Tung Chung to Discovery Bay via the Tsing Ma Bridge and Disneyland
Day 5 – Discovery Bay to Mui Wo
It being June in Hong Kong, there is a 50% chance of boiling heat, a 50% chance of torrential rain, and a 100% chance of high humidity!
Wow, that sounds intense.
Yup, we’re nuts, please donate and share to make it worth our while!
Thank you for reading and have a great day!
Izzy :)
