What we do?
Volunteers and youth workers of Egyesek Youth Association are organizing an extraordinary International Voluntary Camp in one of the poorest region in Hungary called Nógrád county. This is a multi-level, intercultural learning opportunity to the volunteers from all over the world as well as for local Roma and non-Roma youth who are facing serious life challenges. After high school they have only two options: either they go away from their home to access proper education or they become unemployed. This is what Egyesek Youth Association wants to break with helping local youth to find the resources to transform their passion into a way to make their living.
The Gate!
The International Voluntary Camp is the most important project in this mission. This is the opportunity where local youth can join to international volunteers - who are also coming from difficult circumstances most of the times - get to know more about the outside world and create their own picture about it. While working together they create an intercultural community which simulates a vision of how people could live together in a better world. For 4 weeks 40-50 international and local volunteers organize playsessions in 5 different villages supporting in this way the local "Chance for Children" NGO which is carrying out afternoon school service for the Roma kids throught the whole year.
This event is the easiest and most attractive access for local youngsters to have real experience in alternative ways of learning and the approach Egyesek uses. Based on this opportunity they become more committed and we have the chance to work with them in long-term. The Voluntary Camp is the gate for them to make the change happen in their life!
History
We have been organizing this International Voluntary Camp since 2010. We are after 3 Camps already and the feedback we got so far from previous volunteers, citizens of the local community, local NGOs, schools and its leaders, local authorities make it clear: our project is essential in the life of local youth and very well appreciated by everyone! Now the financial supporter unexpectedly decided to stop funding the project. This is why we put all of our time, energy, effort and love to raise money and keep continue to organize this life-changing Voluntary Camp in 2013 as well!
How we use the money?
From the money we raise we cover the local and international volunteers expenses for 4 weeks
- food and accommodation,
- transportation during the Camp,
- professional mentoring and coaching involving international experts,
- high quality equipment for the playsession,
- language workshops in Hungarian and English,
- social media workshops on how to make good shots and videos
