We used to call him Joemar, he is 26 years old. He's the only son among the two of us, a husband and a father of two little boys.
I created this campaign to seek help from you, to sustain his medical needs. We're just a family that is living a normal life. Our mother was also diagnosed with diabetes last year and maintaining her blood sugar level.
But unfortunately, this year January 13th ( Friday, it was really an unlucky day ) he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
What is acute myeloid leukemia?
-- Acute myeloid leukemia (AML), also known as acute myelogenous leukemia or acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL), is a cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells, characterized by the rapid growth of abnormal white blood cells that accumulate in the bone marrow and interfere with the production of normal blood cells.
Sorry for this long story, but this might be an awareness for everybody's health....
His sickness was started October last year. He vomits occasionally and looses appetite. He and his wife visited a neighborhood clinic and was prescribed a medicine for hyperacidity. He was relieved a little while and gained his appetite. But later on, he lost a lot of weight cause he was just like tasting food when he eats because his stomach aches when he eat a lot.
It was first week of December, his hands and feet gets pale. He always feel dizziness. He gets weak day by day. he was brought and admitted at Las Piñas Doctors Hospital. He spends a week there, got a two bags of blood tranfusion because his hemoglobin count was dropped down.
They took an ultrasound on his abdomen and found out that his gal bladder was swollen. He was referred to a hematologist after discharge, but due to financial circumstances we have to wait a little time to get check by a specialist.
Three days before the year ends, he could still laugh but he suffered too much pain on his stomach. He looked like bloodless. Then he brought to emergency at Perpetual help hospital. The doctor found on his ultrasound result that he might have a gal stone on his bladder, he was given a pain reliever. He should stay in the hospital for the operation but they chose to discharge for him to celebrate the new year's eve at home.
January 2, 2017. My mother brought him back at the hospital for the check up, but he was admitted again.
He stayed there for two weeks. They took several blood sample to get tested to know the reason why his hemoglobin count dropped down again. He needed a three bags of blood transfusion. We had a hard time finding donors matched with his blood type thats why it took days before the supposed operation to remove the gal stone. The doctor told that he will undergo first for endoscopy to see why he's having stomach pain, his blood result came and schedule endoscopy was cancelled. After blood transfusion,
they took a CT scan of his abdomen and found out that there's no need for him to operate his gal bladder but his spleen was swollen. They took again a blood sample to further check his condition, when the result came they say that there was a abnormalities in his blood. His doctor said that his condition might be leukemia, so they should get his bone marrow for biopsy.
Days passed by, results are out and his doctor confirms that it's Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
His doctor says that he will undergo for chemotherapy. Luckily, my brother's doctor is a survivor of leukemia. He has the goal to help my brother to fight AML. But due to our financial incapacity, we needed help from you to fund his medical needs and future treatments.
PLEASE, help us save his life. Help us to support his fight to beat AML. Any amount will be appreciated. Thank you! May our God bless us always.
