My niece, Ayisha, is confined in the ICU of The Medical City since September 20, 2017. At 6 years old (turning 7 this November 4), she has been diagnosed with a rare type of epilepsy called Febrile Infection-Related Epilepsy Syndrome (FIRES), a disease that affects one for every one million children. Up to now, her doctors are still searching for the right combination of medicines to control her seizures. It seems that every time we think that the seizures have been controlled and she's already on her way out of the ICU, EEG test will reveal that seizures have recurred. Hence, she needed to stay in the ICU longer.
Her neurologist has been honest to us from the start that it's going to take some time before her case can be controlled. And it's already taking a financial toll on the family because her medical expenses average 100,000 Philippine Pesos (around US$ 2,000) per day. Sadly, we don't know how long she needs to stay in the ICU of The Medical City. We already considered transferring her to the Philippine Children's Medical Center, a government hospital, but Ayisha's condition is still critical and transferring her might just expose her to higher risk of infection, so doctors do not recommend this option for now.
At this point, prayers and financial support will be greatly appreciated. No help is too small to help save our dear Ayisha from this mysterious disease.
Thank you and God bless!
