History Formed

The small home industry at that time was very worrying, especially for small craftsmen engaged in soybeans into tofu and tempeh. The craftsmen in carrying out their daily activities are always confronted with the problem of "limited capital use, difficulties of raw materials, and the price of soybean raw materials in the free market are not affordable with the purchasing power of the craftsmen".

In maintaining a very difficult life, the craftsmen strive to continue to carry out production activities. They hope that there will be a helping hand and assistance from various parties who can help with the problem being faced.

the situation as above has been the driving force for the formation of Toge and Oncom Tofu and Cooperative Producers, which is abbreviated as (KPTTTO). This cooperative was formed in 1979 and for the first time the Deed of Establishment of the KPTTTO was signed. The establishment of the KPTTTO received positive responses from the craftsmen and also the government. This is proven by the legal statement being abolished No: 6935 / BA / DK-10/1 on May 27, 1979.

The existence of KPTTTO in fact could not run smoothly as expected by its members. The government in this matter (Bulog) cannot supply all the raw material needs of its members which vary greatly in number. ulog is only able to provide raw materials because the existence of the KPTTTO must be reviewed for its existence so that it can be adjusted to Bulog's participation.

Through a government regulation in 1980, the name of the KPTTTO was changed to Primary Cooperative of Indonesian Tempe Tofu Producers (Prim Kopti) and had a Legal entity Number: 6935 / BH / DK / -10 / I dated August 25, 1980. In this management period the conditions and situation not encouraging because there are many deficiencies both in terms of organization, institutional, business and financial. From the available data, it shows material and non-material losses for the organization and its members, which in the end the upheaval and instability of the organization's wheels, which at its peak in 1981 held an Extraordinary Member Meeting (RALB) and gave birth to an important decision. Among others, terminating the old management and appointing Kopti's Care Taker officials. As an effort to overcome the turmoil and instability, according to the results of the Extraordinary Member Meeting (RALB) in 1981, a Care Taker was formed.

Problem Situation Faced

Problems have increasingly been faced by KOPTI since 2018, where the rupiah exchange rate against the United States dollar (US) has been weakening since the beginning of the year. Depreciation of the rupiah since the beginning of 2018 was recorded at 6.38% plus this year the CONVID-19 outbreak unsettled Indonesia and the exchange rate of the rupiah against the US dollar (US) returned weak which resulted in tofu and tempeh producers in Karawang regency felt the impact. The price of imported soybeans follows the exchange rate of the US dollar, when the US dollar strengthens against the rupiah, the importer must spend more capital. This triggers an increase in soybean prices and tofu and tempeh production costs rise. The end has the potential to increase prices when consumers buy them.

Indonesia's dependence on imported raw soybeans has a long life, it has been 20 years. eating processed soybeans from the US has become a staple food for the majority of the population in Indonesia, the value of Indonesian soybean imports in a year as much as each month is around 2,200,000 tons Million tons,

Current Supply Needs

If the national demand reaches 2,200,000 tons per month, the Chairperson of the Karawang Regency Tofu and Tempe Producers Cooperative said that currently the average need for imported soybeans is around 75 kg per day. If this number is multiplied by 400 tofu and tempeh craftsmen in Karawang Regency, the availability will reach 30 tons per day to meet the demand of 70% of the population of Karawang Regency as many as 2,110,476 people and 30% are exported to other regions or exported abroad, he said in recent years. we have to rack our brains to maintain the stabilization and the existence of soybean supply of around 8,000 tons per month so that the efforts of tofu and tempeh craftsmen do not go bankrupt.

75 Kilogram x 400 Craftsmen x US $ 0.61 / Kilogram = US $ 18,300 the price fluctuates following the development of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar

In addition, tofu is included in the category of Policy (Law No. 18 of 2012) concerning Food which mandates that the implementation of food is carried out to meet basic human needs that provide benefits fairly, equitably and sustainable based on food sovereignty, food independence, and food security national.

Therefore we collaborate with LIFAD (Lombok Integrated Food and Agriculutre Development) to raise funds to get help from any community to maintain the stabilization of soybean supply, save craftsmen from bankruptcy and protect national food security, especially in Karawang District.

Thank you for your attention
