***Updated: I've gotten another offer for Masters and Partial Scholarship. This page info has been edited. Old description can be requested if needed by previous donor via email request. Thank you***

Hi Everyone,

My name is Rayyan Haries. I have set up this fundraising page in hoping to get your support for me to pursue my MSc. in Global Health Risk Management and Hygiene Policies at University of Bonn, Germany for October 2019.

MY BIO

Originally from Selangor, Malaysia. I am a 28 years old Humanitarian Volunteer with 6 years experiences in volunteering for disaster and crisis response around the world. For the last 3 years, I have gained experiences and skills in managing food aid for refugees around Europe and the Balkans region. Some of the Humanitarian missions I have been involved in for the last 6 years are as follow:

  • Disaster Response Volunteer for 2013 Typhoon Haiyan in The Philippines
  • Disaster Response Volunteer for 2013 Earthquake Bohol in The Philippines.
  • Day Volunteer at Tsunami Clean up in Minamisoma, Japan in 2014.
  • Joint-effort Aid and Medical Mission between AMURT Disaster Relief & The Volunteer Cook in 2015.
  • Founded The Volunteer Cook movement with various small projects throughout the years.
  • Soup Kitchen in Skala Skamnias in 2015
  • Various Food-support Projects in Lesvos, Greece in 2016- 2017.
  • Food Coordinator at The Giving Food Truck, Kara Tepe Reception Ground, Lesvos, Greece in 2017.
  • Food Program Coordinator with Belgraid in Belgrade, Serbia.

Besides these projects, I was involved with a few other volunteering projects in different countries. I am currently undertaking a Long-term Non-profit Management Fellowship in Myanmar, learning how to lead an organisation as their country's lead. I was also selected as the ASEAN Youth Leader in Disaster Risk Reduction with AYVP Program in 2016 as well as the ViP Fellow with VIP Fellowship 2017.

MY EDUCATION JOURNEY

My route to higher education hasn't been typical. Back in 2012, I was set on a different track that I have planned for my life. Back then, being young and naive, I didn't really know what I wanted to do in life. So I ended up without an undergraduate. After 5 years being in the humanitarian field, I knew that in order for me to continue pursuing the work I do, I need to learn more about the humanitarian field. Fortunately, I got accepted to Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine to undertake their Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance. I have to thank those who supported me, I graduated with a Distinction.

WHY A FUNDRAISER?

As part of Germany visa application requirement, I have to showcase that I have the financial means to support myself when I'm in Germany for at least the first year. The amount that I need to deposit in a Blocked Account will be around 8,700 Euro. I'm already planning to work to cover my expenses while studying but I wouldn't be able to financially make 8,700 in the next two months. I make more or less between 200 to 350 Euro a month. Even if I saved it all up, work extra jobs (which am already doing two jobs), I wouldn't be able to raise 8,700 in such short notice. I would need help to with this thus why am fundraising it. It will be really unfortunate to let go of this offer as I already received a scholarship that will cover my whole fees.

WHY SHOULD YOU FUND ME?

I am a hard working individual who inspires to continue bringing positive change in this world. I have proven this with my five years field experiences, combined with my undertaking of the postgraduate diploma that I have achieved with Distinction. During this master's program, I am hoping to undertake a research on the impact of immediate food aid projects have on affected and displaced populations. With the findings, I hope we can have better understanding of the impacts and discover more effective methods and policies in which we can deploy better immediate food aid programs. (This research idea is subjected to changes and amendments after consultation with my future supervisor.)

HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED? (subjected to the Germany Gov changes.)

***I have a Malaysian Ringgit, EURO or GBP accounts to receive money to avoid the high fees on this website if you prefer to send me money directly.***

Germany Financial Blocked Account Requirement: +- 8,700 Euro

Student Visa: 60 Euro

Gogetfunding fees: roughly around 870 Euro ( They take about 6.9% + 0.30 cent/ transaction fee)

Misc expenses + currency exchange fluctuation: 370 Euro

Total: 10,000 Euro

WHAT AM I DOING TO COVER THESE EXPENSES?

I am receiving the Dr. Hans Riegel - Stiftung Scholarship that covers the whole tuition fees of 18,000 Euro. On top of that, I will be working my current two jobs and will undertake more jobs the next couple of months to raise more funds to help me start my Masters. I would need some start-up money for student rental deposit, health insurance and general expenses. I plan to cover these expenses through my current works.

Thank you for reading my pitch and thank you for wanting to support my passion. I am incredibly grateful for your support. If you would like to be in touch with me regarding possible funding, grant, scholarship or a direct donation instead on this platform, you can be in touch with me at [email protected]

Truly,

Rayyan Haries.

Dear friends and family,I don't know how to start writing this but I know I have a responsibility to inform this publicly as I tried to raise fund for my masters publicly.Unfortunately, at this point in time, I would have to let go of my masters and fees-scholarship offer from. . . . .
