Nelson, 43, and his wife Camila, 42, are both permanent employees of a government agency that is tasked to ensure the food security of the country, and the stability of supply and price of the staple grain rice. They are both considered essential workers and required to report for work to oversee important office operations. Unfortunately, this made them more exposed to the possibility of corona virus transmission.

Majority of their household, including their daughter, Athena, tested positive for Covid-19 last Aug 16, 2021 but Nelson's diagnosis also came in with pneumonia. Athena was kept in isolation and taken cared of at her aunt’s military quarters and went through the road to recovery. Camila also slowly recovered and was the one taking care of her husband.

On the other hand, Nelson’s condition worsened as days passed by as he also experienced high blood pressure and chills. Likewise, he suffered from anxiety and had difficulty sleeping. Eventually, breathing became more and more difficult for Nelson. Even when already aided by an oxygen tank, his breathing did not improve, and his condition continued to deteriorate. Despite hospitals are already at full capacity, trying to manage all the symptoms at home was not a choice anymore but to rush Nelson to any available hospital to get immediate care.

Even with one dose of vaccine, Doctors said that his condition could fall to the severe to critical Covid-19 category thus, he was immediately intubated. After a few days, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he stayed for more than a month. During his stay at the ICU, he was sedated most of the time to better manage his anxiety and nervousness which can adversely affect his recovery. Critical Covid-19 patients are usually sedated to manage their shock and to help prevent worsening of their condition. Nearly one month into his confinement, Nelson underwent Tracheostomy to further manage the infection and help him be more relaxed every time the effects of sedatives subsided.

After almost two months of confinement, Nelson has now almost recovered from the threats of Covid-19, thanks to the expertise of St. Luke’s Medical Center and the team of medical professionals that took care of him. But this circumstance have left them with a total hospital bill amounting to Php3,054,751.38 (as of October 6, 2021). His family can only do so much as their resources were already depleted (including a small portion of lot that they've sold) because of the long period of treatment that Nelson went through. Their relatives have also extended all forms of support but still, it would take them a veeeeery long time to raise this amount as government employee. We are also getting help from all the government funding we can think of just to help ease the burden his family is currently experiencing.

Any amount you can extend to my Uncle will really be of great help to him and his family so he can focus on his full healing and get back to serving the Philippines on his mission to food security.

May you be blessed ten-folds for sharing your blessings! <3
