Campaign Story
#HELPNANAYNENENG - PLEASE HELP MY MOTHER FIGHT CANCER
Hi! My name is Archie Garcia. I am based in Bacolod City, Philippines. This is for my mother.
Around second week of March 2017, my mother, Rogelia Garcia or “Nanay Neneng” as what most people we know call her, went to a Healing Galing clinic (Alternative Medicine clinic) in Quezon City to have her breast checked. She was advised to undergo an Ultrasound. On March 30, she did and the ultrasound results stated:
Impression: Right sided, ill defined retroareolar focus with calcifications and concomitant nipple retraction – BIRADS 5. (Highly suggestive of malignancy)
My mother went back to Healing Galing and she was advised to undergo a specific alternative medicinal treatment for 1 month, and not to do biopsy yet.
My mother went to a hospital in Paranaque for consultation to a surgeon for second opinion. Based on the ultrasound findings (Birads 5) and physical examination conducted, we were advised to look for an Oncologist, undergo biopsy as soon as possible for better diagnosis of the cancer. My mother was also given guidance on how the treatment would be—from biopsy, to chemotherapies, and to operation. In terms of the finances, my mother was also told how much it would typically cost. Given all these options, my mother really wants to go back to Bacolod and get treatment there. She wants to start with the 1-month alternative medicine treatment, with high hopes and strong faith that it will improve. After which, we will go through with the conventional medicine approach.
You see my mother works as a domestic helper. For most of my life she was away, working in Manila, while I am studying in Bacolod. She found means to put me to school and I was able to finish college a little over a year ago… because of her. Once a year she spends 2 weeks in Bacolod for vacation. In her last vacation a few months back, we just basically hanged out and talked. Most of the time, we went to malls in Bacolod City. We tried riding Grab/Uber, and she was so excited (not anymore Jeepneys). I treated her to fast foods or restaurants, and I paid for it because I am working now. I want to do more of these things for her. All those missed years that she was away and working, all I wish now is to be able to spend more years with her, go around Bacolod again, pay back all the sacrifices that she did for me, and with that, I want her to get well. Our combined salaries are enough for day-to-day but not enough for this scale of medical need.
TARGET FUND WE NEED
My mother will have her treatment done in Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod.
- 1 session of Chemotherapy is around Php 45K (US$ 900). Her doctor's estimate will be around 4 sessions maximum. We were able to get my HMO (from my work) to cover at least 2 sessions of Chemotherapy within it's limit. So we will need at least Php 90K (US$ 1,800) to cover the other 2 sessions.
- After which, the operations will cost an estimated Php 300,000 - Php 400,000 (US$ 6,000 - 8,000) more or less
- Recovery costs will be another set of expenses.
In total, we are looking at between Php 500,000 (US$ 10,000) to Php 750,000 (US$ 15,000) and praying and hoping that there will be no complications.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
Thank you in advance for all the help that you will give regardless of amount. I will never be able to thank you enough, and I am hopeful that we will see this through. Please do leave or message me with your name/email/number so I can find a way to thank you back personally, or by message, at the least. Most importantly, on top of what amount you can share, a short prayer for my mother’s recovery is what we ask.

Update posted by Archie Garcia at 05:28 amThis June 5, 2017, my mother will do her chemotheraphy (every session cost P45,000.00).
